Packaging

This is very important and great attention should be made in adequately packing your effects in the most suitable manner. Remember they may have a very long journey ahead. We highly recommend that a carton should weigh a maximum of 35 kilos for the small one and 60 kilos for the bigger box. It is safer and no more expensive to use two smaller cartons than one large carton when they are full of heavy goods like books.

Zambezi Freight packing cartons are chemically hardened cardboard boxes, designed for the multiple purposes of packing, storing or transporting your personal effects safely.

The large packing carton we supply is the 'Tea-Chest carton, it's dimensions are: length 90cm, height 45cm & width 52cm Useful for packing bulky but light items such as clothes, shoes, bed linen & sports equipment.

Can I use my own cartons?
Yes, but please ensure that your cartons are made of strong cardboard. If you are unsure, please use our cartons, they are FREE, chemically hardened and specifically designed for international sea and air shipping protection of your excess baggage. If you do send your own cartons, please provide us with their exact dimensions (length, width and height) so we can give you an exact quote.

To further protect any electrical items in their original boxes we suggest that you disguise the boxes by wrapping them in black plastic bags or similar opaque sheets. As long as they are then clearly marked fragile and the destination name and address clearly visible, the carton should be safe. There is no need for the various people who handle your packages en route to know the contents. To know that they are fragile should suffice.

Zambezi Freight can disguise these boxes at a cost of £1.80 per box

How long can I keep the cartons/barrels for? There is no time limit. We require a deposit based on the number of cartons/barrels that you would have ordered; this is meant to cover our initial costs for sending the cartons/barrels out to you and is deductible from the final shipping cost. Please do not leave the delivery of your empty cartons till the last minute, allow yourself plenty of time to pack.

Do you accept my suitcases? Yes, we do; we also accept holdalls and backpacks. Please provide exact dimensions (length, width and height) as this allows us to give you an accurate quote. Similarly, suitcases and bags should be locked securely to protect the contents. We can also shrink wrap your bag at a cost of £4.00.

Tips on packing your goods

 Always ensure that breakables are placed at the centre of the carton, away from edges, corners and sides.

Use bubble wrap, wrapping paper or even soft materials such as clothing and linen to pack around fragile items and to fill spaces.

Be certain not to leave space in a carton: pack as tightly as possible to prevent movement and the possibility of items being damaged.

Don't put handling staff at risk from punctured cartons. Keep sharp objects away from edges or sides.

Zambezi Freight recommends that you avoid packing liquids such as wines, spirits or perfumes. There is always the chance they could leak, ruining your belongings and other people's. Moreover, such items are not covered by insurance policies.

By law, we are unable to ship certain items. We have listed some of the Restricted Items but please contact us with any queries.
